Iowa Flooding

We had been hearing about all the rain in Iowa and were shocked to see all the pictures of Iowa State University, especially images of Hilton Coliseum filled with feet of water.  Even more surprised to hear about these Iowa communities that we grew up in on the Today Show and other national broadcasts.  But it didn't truly hit me how devastating the damage was until I saw it first hand on Saturday.
We stopped at a gas station in Colfax to see all the water and I had to get out and take a few pictures, it is really hard to believe how much water was sitting there.  Even in these pictures are almost misleading.  It looks like Casey's is busy with customers, but all those vehicles are trapped in that parking lot.
This is the main entrance into town, I don't think any cars will be going into town this way for a a while.   This gas station we are parked at is lucky to even be open.  One of their parking lot entrances is that red sign, so the gas station is just barely high enough to escape the water.
The semi truck on the right is on I80, so you can see how close the water gets to the interstate.  When driving on it, it looks like it is surrounded by lakes.
All these images are on the south side of the interstate, my dad's business and my brother's house are both located within a mile of this gas station on the north side of the interstate.  They both got some water and have messes to clean up, but are very lucky in comparison to most of the businesses and residents in the Colfax community.
